She was born January 28, 1916 in Akron, Ohio, the older daughter of H. Thomas and Anna
(Bailey) Leach.
When she was 13 years old, Rebe Etta’s father lost his employment in Akron as a result of the
depression, and the family was forced to relocate to several communities as he sought steady
work during the 1930's. They moved to Bath, NY, then to Ridgeway, PA, eventually settling in
Lewistown, PA where Rebe graduated from high school in 1933. Finally, both parents found
employment in Harrisburg where Rebe lived until she moved to Littlestown as a bride.

Stewart N. "Lukie" Long, 88, of Littlestown, died Sat., Jan. 19, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Frances A. (Sneeringer) Long for 67 years. Born Oct 9, 1924 in Tyrone, MD, he was the son of the late Ellsworth & Anna H. (Snyder) Long. Lukie was a 1942 Littlestown High School graduate. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Nov. 17, 1942 in Philadelphia and was honorably discharged at Camp Perry, Williamsburg, VA Nov 11, 1945 with the rate of Gunner's Mate Second Class. While in the Navy, he participated in the invasions of Saipan,Tinian and Pelilu in the South Pacific and earned the following ribbons: American Theater of Operations, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation w/ 3 stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon and the World War Two Victory Medal

Carroll T Mays (84) of Hanover, Pa went into the arms of Jesus so peacefully at his home on Friday, Jan. 18th, after a battling heart disease for many years. He was surrounded by his lovely wife, 2 children, and brother-in-law; Donald Warner.
He was born to the late Daniel T. Mays and Carrie R. (Baublitz) Mays in Baltimore County on March 7th 1928, and grew up in Manchester, Md. After attending school in Carroll County, he worked various jobs before enlisting in the Army. Carroll was stationed on the Island of Saipan during WWII and awarded the Victory Metal for his service. After the War, he went on to The Baltimore School of Electronics on the G.I. Bill to become a Certified Electrician and T.V. Technician.

Charlotte Romaine (Bowers) Sentz, 84, formerly of Littlestown, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 13, at The Brethren Home, New Oxford. Born October 31, 1928 in Carroll County, MD, she was the youngest child of the late Maurice D. & Martha C. (Myers) Bowers. Charlotte attended grade school in Black's Corner, near Taneytown, MD and graduated from Taneytown High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked for the Social Security Office in Baltimore, MD and later for the Cambridge Rubber Co., Taneytown. Over the years, she was a homemaker and mother to five children as well as a baby sitter to others. She later worked at Schottie's Restaurant, Littlestown and upon retiring she worked part-time for Schmuck Lumber Co, Hanover. Charlotte loved to cook and care for her family and friends, care for her flowers and her previous cats and dogs. She was a life long member of Piney Creek Church of the Brethren where she attended Sunday School, held various offices, Women's Fellowship and taught Sunday School. She was a kind and loving person to her family and friends
