Biography:
Shirley A. Clarke, 83, of Littlestown and formerly of Thurmont, died Friday, Nov 23, at UPMC Hanover. She was the wife of Michael E. Clarke for 67 years. Born July 11, 1935 in Waynesboro, Shirley was the daughter of the late William & Edith (Morehead) Wagnant. She was retired from Cozy Restaurant of Thurmont as a food service manager.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her sons: Bill Clarke & Deb of Littlestown; David Clarke & Reeba of Havana, FL; Ken Clarke & Daniella of Monrovia; Fred Clarke & Vickie of Hagerstown; Chuck Clarke & Tammy of Fairfield; her daughters: Tina Brooks of Littlestown; Rose Beasley & Sam of Richmond, VA; Angie Baust & Mike of Fairfield and Amy Brockwell of Gettysburg; her 24 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and her 2 great, great grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her son, Michael Clarke, Jr.; her brother Vaughan Waynant and her sister Marion McKissack. Shirley was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown and the Thurmont Twirlettes. She loved her family and built her life around her husband, children and grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed gardening, setting up Christmas Village, baking and computer games. She was also an avid reader.
Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, Nov 27, at 10 A.M. at her church with The Rev. C. Anthony Miller and The Rev. James M. Sterner, Con-Celebrants. Viewing is Monday, Nov 26, from 6 – 8 P.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown. Interment is in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Thurmont.
