Biography:
Dr. Michael Bucan, 95, died peacefully at his Littlestown, PA home on Thurs, May 4. Born Feb 1, 1922 in Bressler, he was the son of the late Nikola and Lubica (Cerkes) Bucan. He graduated from the University of Scranton in 1943, then went on to earn his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He served in both the U.S. Army and Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Captain.
Dr. Bucan was a practicing physician in Shavertown for 43 years retiring in 1990. During this time he also acted as coroner, doctor for the Dallas area school district as well as for the Irem Temple Shrine. Michael was on staff for both Wilkes Barre General and Nesbitt Hospitals. Upon retiring, he was an avid woodworker, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou (Durbin) Bucan, his 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Surviving are his 2 daughters: Sue Voelker & husband, Don, of Charlotte, NC and Cindy Hunt & husband, Phil, of Littlestown; his 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6, at Fern Knoll Cemetery, Dallas, PA.
