Biography:
August J. “Gus” Heilig, 87, of Littlestown, entered into God’s Eternal Care on Monday, March 20, at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Marilyn M. (Meyer) Heilig for almost 56 years. Born Aug 10, 1929 in Glen Cove, NY, he was the son of the late August, Sr. & Gertrude (Shaw) Heilig. Gus was a retired plumber of PLU 200 on Long Island, NY having been a member for 62 years. He enjoyed growing African Violets and puttering in his yard.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Marilyn, are his son Allen & wife, Amy, and his 3 grandchildren: William, Laura & Kathryn Heilig. He was also the father of the late James R. Heilig. Gus was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown. He was a Locust Valley Fire Department EMT for 36 years; Exempts for 69 years and a McSherrystown Knights of Columbus member.
There will be a Viewing Wednesday, March 22, from 6 – 8 P.M. with a prayer service at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown. A Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday at 11 .M. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with The Rev. James M. Sterner Celebrant. Viewing will be held at McLaughlin, Kramer, Megiel Funeral Home in Glen Cove, NY and Interment will be in Locust Valley Cemetery, NY the end of the week.
