Biography:
John L. Sweeney, Sr., 87, of Littlestown, died Wed, Dec 28, at the home of his daughter, Barbara. He was the widower of Catherine C. Sweeney who died Aug 10, 2016. They had been married for 57 years. Born Dec 24, 1929 in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Ralph E. & Rosie (Coulson) Sweeney. John served in the Army during the Occupation of Germany. He, along with his wife, were owners and operators of J.C. Cleaners of Gettysburg.
Surviving are his son, John L. Sweeney, Jr. of Hanover, his 4 daughters: Teresa M. Carroll of Hanover, Audrey V. Hawk & husband, Bob, of Littlestown, Peggy Sue Shope & husband, Stephen, of Gardners, and Barbara K. Loncar & husband, Jeff, of Littlestown with whom he resided; his 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. John was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl L. (Sweeney) Painter and his 11 brothers and sisters. He was a member of Christ UCC, Littlestown and a life member of the following: Littlestown VFW, American Legion, FOE and Gettysburg Moose. John loved NASCAR, hunting and dancing to country western music.
Funeral Service is Tues, Jan 3, at 11 A.M. at Christ UCC, Littlestown with The Rev. Craig Arentz officiating. Viewings are Monday 6 – 8 P.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown and one hour prior to service time Tues at church. Interment is in Christ Church Cemetery with military honors conducted by Littlestown Allied Veterans council. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Be reassured that your dad & mom are now together, again.
I would see your parents every so often around Hanover and would then talk some about times on the farm and "down the lane." Good people and neighbors. God bless them both.
