Biography:

Ruth J. Smith, 85, of Littlestown, died Friday, May 18, at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore. She was the widow of James E. "Smitty" Smith who died April 14, 2001. Born March 31, 1927 in Uniontown, MD, she was the daughter of the late John & Edna (Lindsay) Waltz. She was employed with Jack Tar Togs and Schottie's Restaurant, both of Littlestown, Westminster Knit and was retired from Sylvia Garments, Littlestown after which she was employed by Littlestown Area School District working in their cafeterias.

Ruth is survived by 2 sons: Robert L. Smith & wife, Melanie, of York; Michael J. Smith & wife, Joyce, of Westminster; 6 grandchildren: Kirstin Prell of Hampstead, Marni Garland and Kedra Parr, both of San Antonio, TX; Samantha Smith of Manchester, MD; Blake Smith of Panama City Beach, FL and Jaclyn Smith of Hanover; 8 Great Grandchildren: Sierra, Nick & Tyler Prell, Brady, Logan, Griffin & Ella Parr and Averie Garland; and 3 sisters: Agatha Cashman and Pearl Yingling, both of Westminster and Janice Morgret of Hanover. Ruth was predeceased by 2 sisters: Virginia Smith and Reba Halter and a brother, William Waltz.

Ruth was a member and actively involved in Bart's Centenary United Methodist Church and was a life member of Alpha Fire Co., both of Littlestown.

Funeral Service is Wednesday at 10 A.M. at her church with her pastor, Charles H. Reinaker officiating. Viewing is Tuesday 5 - 8 P.M. at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown.
