Biography:
Dennis Stavely Wallick, 92, of Littlestown, passed away Mon A.M., Aug 1, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. He was the widower of Mildred L. (Bollinger) Wallick who died May 25, 2015 - they were married in 1940. Dennis spent all his life in Littlestown until the past few years where he resided at Homewood. Born Oct. 7, 1923 in Littlestown, Dennis was the son of the late Emmanuel & Emma (Stavely) Wallick. He attended Littlestown Area Schools and served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and was stationed in Manilla, Phillipines when WWII was declared over. Dennis was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Littlestown in 1985 after 21 years of service and afterward was employed part-time with Zerfing’s Hardware of Littlestown.
Surviving are his two daughters: Phyllis Forsythe & husband, John of Glenville, Betty Skelton of Leesburg, VA; his 6 grandchildren: Bryan Skelton & wife, Gabrielle, Jeffrey Skelton and wife Sarah, Robert Skelton, Krisi Erwin & husband, Jeremy, John Forsythe & wife, Angela and Shelly Burns; 11 great grandchildren and 1 step great granddaughter. Dennis was predeceased by his 2 half brothers: Harry Earl Wallick and George A. Wallick Grove.
Dennis was very involved as a public servant to the citizens of Littlestown. He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Littlestown, serving on the church council and also custodian for 6 yrs. and a life member of the following: V.F.W. Post 6954, American Legion Post 321, Cumberland Valley Fireman’s Assn, PA State Fireman’s Assn, Adams Co. Emerg. Serv. Assn, Littlestown Fish & Game Assn and Alpha Fire Co where he had been the oldest living member and had served as President, Vice President, 2nd Ass’t Chief, drill team and Secretary for 42 years. He was awarded distinguished service award in 1979 and 1987 and distinguished EMS award in 1996. He was charter member of the Adams County Fire Chief’s Assn; served as past president of the Littlestown Lions Club; and was on Littlestown Borough Council and was president for 10 years. Dennis was a Red Cross Aid and CPR instructor for 27 years and an EMT for 27 years. He was also an F.O.E. member of Littlestown. Dennis was always there to a give a helping hand to anyone in need and certainly was an active member of the community.
Funeral Service is Friday, Aug 5, at 11 A.M. at his church with The Rev. Becca Ajer officiating. Viewings are Thurs 6 – 8 P.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown and Friday 10 –11 A.M. at church. Interment is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. Memorials in Dennis’ name may be sent to Alpha Fire Co, 40 E.
