Aunt Mary Catherine, cousins & all family members,
We send our love and comfort to you during this time. We remember Uncle Alex fondly. He was always ready to engage in conversation and make people feel comfortable. My husband, Ron, especially enjoyed their conversations about the Civil War and military history. And his biscuits and pies were award-winning in my book. He was a man who valued family and it showed. We loved him very much, as we love you all.

Alex was a brother-in-law with whom, over the years, I had the opportunity to share many hours of conversation on a wide variety of subjects and, also, to see him grow into the role of a loving husband and a solicitous father to the seven children with which he and Mary Catherine were blessed. Early on I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with his mother and father, immigrants from Scotland who passed on to their son the good, solid, practical values of the Scots. Unfortunately, Alex did not pick up the colorful Scottish brogue that enlivened the conversations of his parents and which I enjoyed hearing. Dedicated to his wife, his children, and his work, Alex gave a good example of love of family and country to those around him, and was always open to conversation on a variety of subjects, in all of which he was well read and well founded. I salute you and your life, Alex, and thank you for your care and generous service to your family, to your country, and to all whom you met, as well as to all those with whom you worked. You did well in life, and may God embrace you for eternity even as He comforts your wife and progeny. With respect from your brother-in-law, Tom.
