Oh my goodness, my dear Ruthie, I didn't know that you lost your wonderful Dick. I just found out today. It's been a tough year on us, hasn't it? You two have always been a highlight of both Tom's and my life and memories at St. John's--an ideal personification of what God planned and Jesus teaches us to be. Reds, Snook, Dick, and Tom and many more--what a marvelous handful for our Lord. I love you and will show up on your front patio soon! "Miss Debbie"

I'm the Volunteer Coordinator at Gettysburg National Military Park and have come to know John Richard (as I called him) over the years. He was so affable, gregarious, so full of life - always so happy!
He taught me alot and I'll miss him. He was a true gentleman.
On behalf of Gettysburg NMP, I'm sorry for your loss.

We are very sorry for your loss. I met Dick at CW and he was always kind and friendly. He had a great sense of humor and was always nice to my husband Kyle, who also worked at the wheelwright. We are sending your family good thoughts and prayers.

For Ruthie, et al;

You don't know me, I'm sure, but I grew up with your classmate, Olwen Sargent, on the same street where Dick's parents eventually moved (Chestnut Hill Lane (east). I believe I first saw Dick when I was in the sixth grade, and he was playing drums during a High School concert, I think. And, I know he was involved with the Union Mills Homestead, which was a great thing. I hope to do similar things once I retire this year.

I'm sorry to learn about Dick, and I extend my condolences to Ruthie and her family.

God bless.

When I first moved to Williamsburg, VA 17 years ago & worked for Colonial Williamsburg, I became friends with Dick while I worked in the Governor's Palace & he in the wheelwright shop. When Dick retired from CW, he & his lovely wife Ruthie moved to my hometown, Littlestown, PA. I loved catching up with Dick & Ruthie either in PA while I was up visiting family or in VA while they were visiting their son, Richard.

Dick was very active in the church beside my parents' house & was in charge of my grandmother's funeral reception a few years ago. It comforted me greatly to be the recipient of one of his famous bear hugs on that difficult day. I've no doubt there are many recipients of his bear hugs in heaven now.

Dick was a caring man who brought much joy to this world. Much love & light to Ruthie and Richard and all of Dick's family and friends.
