Biography:

JOHN E. SHOMPER, 72, of Littlestown, died Saturday evening, Feb 25, at his home.  He was the husband of Barbara A. (Swam) Shomper for 53 years.  Born April 10, 1939 in Hanover, he was the son of the late James H. & Evelyn C. (Spangler) Shomper.  John was a '57 Littlestown High School graduate and was retired from HADCO Lighting of Littlestown after 41 years as a foreman and plant supervisor.  He served in the U.S. Navy from '57-'61 and served in reserves for 2 years. 
 
In addition to his wife,  John is survived by a daughter, Marcia E. Forsythe & husband, David;  3 sons:  James L. Shomper & wife, Maria;  Daniel E. Shomper and Timothy R. Shomper, all of Littlestown;  7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  John was predeceased by sister, Judith A. Topper.  He was a member of New Hope Faith Community Church, Littlestown; a former Sunday School teacher for 20 years and consistory member; hosted a Bible Study at his home for 10 years and was a Gettysburg Hospital volunteer for Oncology and Cardiac units.  John was past president of Littlestown Jaycees and was  the recipient of the Ralph Ruggles Jaycee Award.  His family was the center of John's life.  He enjoyed gardening, attending his grandchildren's sporting events,  walking in the Gettysburg Battlefield and traveling to Williamsburg, VA.
 
Funeral Service is Wednesday 11 A.M. at Christ U.C.C., Littlestown with his minister, Pastor Timothy J. Kielley officiating.  Viewings are Tuesday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown and Wednesday 1 hr prior to service time at the church.  Interment is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.  Pallbearers will be:  Dave Forsythe, Toby Boyd, Keith Snyder, Mark Beatty, Corey Carr and Steve Kuhn.  Memorials in John's name may be sent to:  New Hope Faith Community Church, 58 Maple Ave., Littlestown, PA  17340  OR  St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38015-1942.

To Barb and family,
So sorry to hear about John. He will always hold a special place in my heart. I am blessed to have known him. He is in heaven right now joking with God and I'm sure volunteering to help someone. Keeping you & your family in my prayers. Love ya!
