Biography:
Earl George Sanders, 95, formerly of Littlestown, entered into God’s eternal care on Sat., March 29, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center, Hanover. Born Sept 3, 1918 in Adams County, he was the son of the late Maurice & Alice (Smith) Sanders. Earl was a devoted husband to the late M. Bernadette (Eline) Sanders for 58 years. Also married to Betty (Arter) Hood Sanders for 14 years. In addition to his wife, Earl is also survived by 5 stepchildren: Dawn Tauscher, Lisa Dickensheets & husband, Dale; Michelle Smith & husband, Tim; Eric Hood & wife, Star and Brent Hood & wife, Vicki, all of Hanover; 8 step grandchildren: Jesse, Erin, Shane, Nathaniel, Kaybrea, Austin, Zachary and Logan and numerous nieces and nephews. Earl was predeceased by 11 siblings: Elgin, Germanus, Leroy, Raymond, Maurice, Mark, Ralph, Mary Bernadette Sanders, Elsie Tiehel, Curvin and Mildred Feeser.
Earl attended Eichelberger School in Hanover and worked in local shoe factories, Winsor and Beaudin. He retired from York International. Earl proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1945-‘47, WWII 36th Infantry Division. He was captured in Germany in 1946 and was a POW for 7 months and released in April of 1947. He was stationed in Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Earl was a member of Fish & Game of Littlestown, Catholic War Vets of Bonneauville, American Legion and VFW, both of Littlestown, Kansas City and the United Auto Workers of York. He was a life long member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown
where he volunteered with Bingo and pizza fundraisers. Earl enjoyed hunting, his home and his family.
Mass of Christian Burial is Wed. at 11 A.M. at his church with The Rev. James M. Sterner Celebrant. Viewing is Tues. 6 – 8 P.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown with prayers recited at 8 P.M. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Littlestown Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be: Donald, Joe, Louis & Larry Sanders, Gerry Tiehel and Jesse Dickensheets. The family suggests memorials in Earl’s name be sent to his church @ 29 S.
