Biography:

Esther B. Harner, 84, formerly of Littlestown, died early Sat. A.M., Jan 18, at the Brethren Home, New Oxford. She was the wife of Lloyd “Biggie” Harner, Sr. of New Oxford for 65 years. Born January 24, 1929 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Mervin S. and Ethel (Eyler) Hankey. Esther was a 1947 graduate of Littlestown High School and a 1948 graduate of York School of Beauty. She was a cosmetologist and  owner of Esther Harner’s Beauty Salon in Littlestown for 42 years.
 
In addition to her husband, Esther is survived by a daughter, Rebecca I. Shermeyer and husband, Anthony, of Spring Grove; 2 sons: L. Richard Harner Jr. and wife, Nancy, and Kevin M. Harner and wife, Karen, both of Littlestown; 8 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren and 10 Step Great Grandchildren. A brother, Glen Hankey of Joppa, MD and 3 sisters: Viola “Susie” Breighner of Littlestown, Irene Tracey of Glen Burnie, MD and Judy Arentz of Billings, MT. She was predeceased by a brother, John Hankey and a sister, Betty Hull.
 
Esther was a member of Bart’s Centenary United Methodist Church, Littlestown. She attended every high school reunion and served on the class committees. She was a life member of the Alpha Fire Company Auxiliary in Littlestown  and a life member of the Littlestown VFW Auxiliary.
 
A funeral service will be Tues at 11 A.M. at Little’s Funeral Home with Pastor Emilia Burdick officiating. Viewing is Monday 6 – 8 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.  Memorials in Esther’s name may be made to her church @ 56 E. King St., Littlestown, PA  17340 or VNA Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA  17331.  Online condolences may be shared on www.littlesfh.com.

Lloyd \"Biggie\" and Families,

I take comfort in knowing Heaven has gained A Gentile Kind Hearted Soul. We have a new Angle above us. Esther was precise in what Ever she did and she will be Deeply Missed in Many ways by everyone. May God Bless and Comfort all your Families in this time of Sorrow. Sincerely, John

Rich ... sorry for the loss of your mother on Saturday. I lost my dad May 24, 2004 in Florida and I miss him as though it was yesterday. Be glad for all the time you had with her. I would give just about anything to have 5 more minutes with him.
