Biography:

Retired Sergeant First Class, George E. Halter, Jr., 81, of Littlestown passed away peacefully at Gettysburg Hospital on Mon., Oct 7, due to complications resulting from a stroke.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 to 1971 with 21 years of service retiring grade PSG E-7.  He was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA, Kitzingen, Germany, Colorado Springs, CO, Ft Leonard Wood, CO and Ft. Knox, KY.  He  served 13 months in the Korean War.  During this time he received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal (10LC), Drill Sgt Badge, Good Conduct Medal (7th award) and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).
 
After his service years he briefly worked at Hadco and retired from Schindler Elevator after 19 years in 1992. Some of his hobbies included collection of coins, beer steins and clocks.
 
Bud is survived by his wife, Hildegard C. Halter, the love of this life.  They united in 1954 and had 59 wonderful years together.  He was predeceased by his father, George E. Halter, Sr., Mother Gladys L. Schwartz and son Erich George Halter.  He is survived by his sister RosaLee Russell and husband Donald of Laurel, DE, daughter Sandra Creamer & husband, Paul of Littlestown; daughter-in-law Teresa Halter of Gettysburg, Grandchildren:  Penny McLaughlin, Nicole Gebhart, Christine Stambaugh, Erich M. Halter, Melissa Halter and 8 great grandchildren.
 
A Service honoring Bud’s life will be Wed., Oct 8, at 11 A.M. at Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown with The Rev. Timothy J. Kielley officiating.  Viewing will be 10 – 11 A.M. Wed at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
