Biography:
DONALD D. KAUFMAN, 79, of Hanover, died Thurs., Aug 22, at his home. He was the husband of Joye S. (Sutton) Kaufman for 32 years. Born Dec 2, 1933 in Wooster, OH, he was the son of the late DeVere & Josephine (Graham) Kaufman. Don earned his PhD from Ohio State University in Microbiology and was retired from the U.S.D.A. as a research scientist in Kutztown and Beltsville, MD. During his career he was involved in researching pesticide degradation.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by a son, David DeVere Kaufman of Biglerville; 5 stepchildren: Colin L. Jemison of Salisbury, MD; Shawn Landis of Glen Rock; Tom Jemison of Hanover; Eve Jemison of McSherrystown and Sharon Dawson of Los Angeles, CA; 3 adopted children: John Kaufman of WV and Matthew Kaufman and Lisa Kaufman, both of Montgomery County, MD; a granddaughter, Adyson Kaufman; 8 step grandchildren and 5 adopted grandchildren and brother, Stanley Kaufman of Painesville, OH. Don was predeceased by brother, David Graham Kaufman. Don was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, Silver Run and a member of the W. Manheim Planning Commission and their Board of Supervisors.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Don’s name may be made to VNA Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. Little’s Funeral Home, Littlestown is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared on www. littlesfh.com
