Biography:
Louise Kathleen Krout, 88, of Littlestown, Pa went to her eternal home peacefully while she slept at the Cross Keys Brethren Home, Monday, October 28, 2024. Kathleen was born February 13, 1936 in Harney, Maryland on her family's farm. She was the widow of Lee R. Krout who passed away in 2006. She graduated from Taneytown High School and became a nurse at Frederick School of Nursing. A lifelong nurse, she started her career in nursing at Frederick Hospital and followed her husband to Germany as part of his military service, from 1959 to 1962, where she served as a nurse in a U.S. Army Hospital. Upon their return to the United States, she became an operating room nurse at Annie Warner, now known as Gettysburg Hospital. Kathleen took a break from nursing when her youngest child, Terri, was born in 1976. But the break was short lived as she helped any family or friend who needed medical assistance, often having them move into the family home. She later took a job at Hanover Hall Nursing Home but kept up the tradition of helping family and friends in need until Alzheimer’s made it impossible. In 2019, she moved into Cross Keys Village to be cared for as she had cared for so many others.
Kathleen and Lee had three children: Timothy Lee, Thomas Lee, and Terri Lee (Krout) Westfall. Tim and his late wife Michelle have 2 children, Joshua Krout and his wife Amanda, who have four children of their own, Berklee, Sydnee, Finlee, and Bodee, and Dr. Julia (Krout) Blakey and her husband John who have two children of their own, Evelynn and Eleanor. Tom has two children, Tyler Krout and his wife Malorie and their child Leeland, and Kyle Krout and his wife Paige. Terri (Krout) Westfall and her late husband Bryan Westfall have two children, Nolan and Bryson Westfall. Tim has since remarried to Denise (Senseney) Krout and Terri is engaged to Scott Aeppli.
Kathleen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who knew her Lord and Savior in a very personal way. She loved her Lord, her family, and loved serving others. Funeral services will be at Little’s Funeral Home in Littlestown on Monday, November 4. Viewing will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am with an interment service and lunch reception at St. James UCC Church, 1200 Harney Road, Littlestown, immediately following the service. Rev. Jerry Beers of Well Spring Church in Hanover will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the children ask that you donate to help overcome the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s by donating to the Alzheimer’s foundation at: alzfdn.org/donate

While I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Louise personally, I work with Tim, and reading about her, it's clear she was an incredible person. I wish I could have had the chance to meet her. My thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with your family during this time.
