Biography: Thomas A. Shields, 83, of Hanover, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at home with his family by his side.  He was the loving husband of the late Janet (Lord) Shields.
Born December 5, 1940 in Hanover, he was the son of the late William W. and Kathryn A. (James) Shields.
Tom graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1958 and later received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from York College of Pennsylvania.  He retired from Inland Container where he was a General Manager for many years.  He and his family resided in several different communities where he was very active. Tom served as President of the Hazelton, PA YMCA, coached Little League and softball, was a member of the United Way and Kiwanis Club, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies fan.  Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynn M. Shields (Bernie Reorda), Colorado City, CO, Temi Osborn (Jeff), Corpus Christi, TX and Kathy Hammel (Adam Mason), Hampstead, MD; brothers, William Shields, Hammond, LA and David Shields, Scotland, PA; sister, Deborah Olson (Ken), Fence, WI; grandchildren, Sydney Hammel, Jacob Hammel, Joshua Fetchko, Erica Fetchko, Joseph Fetchko and Elizabeth Fetchko, son-in-law, Mark Fetchko, Bradenton, FL ;companion, June Carr, Hanover and her sons, Greg (Sherry), Steve, Todd (Angie), Joe (Dawn), Mike and their children.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie Shields Fetchko.
A service to celebrate the life of Thomas A. Shields will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut St., Hanover with Pastors Faye Snyder and Alex Sheppard-Witt officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Thomas A. Shields may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

I have the privilege of calling Tom a friend. We worked together at Inland Container and forged an everlasting friendship filled with memories and lots of laughter.

He will remain in my heart.

Tom was a very likeable guy to all our high school classmates in the Class of 1958 at Gettysburg High School. We always looked forward to his returns to our class reunions. Tom always had a great smile to share with everyone. He will be dearly missed.
