Biography: Evelyn A. Hammer, 95 of Gettysburg, died Friday September 13, 2024 at Genesis, The Gettysburg Center. She was the wife of Homer F. Brown who died in 1972 and Charles S. Hammer who died in 2009. Born February 21, 1929 in Littlestown, she was the daughter 0f the late James L. and Burdella S. Baker Cool.
Evelyn began working at the Littlestown Canning Factory in her teens, the family farm, was co-owner of Brown’s Grocery Store in Barlow, worked at Michael Manor Nursing Home and retired from Green Acres Nursing Home.
Surviving are her 4 sons, James L. Brown and Patsy of Gettysburg, Thomas L.  Brown of Hanover, Roger G. Brown and Mariann of Gettysburg and Jeffrey S. Brown and Lou of New Oxford. Her 7 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren, 12 Great Great-Grandchildren and her brother Harry Cool of Littlestown. She was predeceased by her grandson, Adam T. Brown, sisters Jane Fox, Ethel Berger, Alda Cool and brothers Arthur, Lester, Howard and Francis Cool.
She was a member of Christ Church of Littlestown, a life member of the Barlow  Fire Co.  Auxillary and a member of the Gettysburg Moose. She loved crocheting, knitting, gardening traveling and being with family.
Funeral Service is Wednesday September 18, 2024 at 11 A.M. at Liittle’s Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Fritz of Christ Church of Littlestown officiating. There will be no  viewing however the family will receive friends 10-11 Wednesday before the service. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery. Condolences to Roger and all of your family. I met Evelyn through her step daughter Debbie, when she married Debbie's father Charlie. May she RIP.
