Biography: Burnell “Bernie” Winfield Hilker, age 77, of Winter Haven, FL passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 29, 2021 with his loving wife and daughters by his side. He was born June 25, 1944 in Hanover, PA to the late Herman Hilker and Erma (Berwager) Hilker. Bernie served proudly in the Army National Guard. He spent years as a photographer and photo shop owner. After moving to Winter Haven, he worked for the Polk County Parks & Rec Department. He enjoyed dances at Highland Hills Golf Course and the American Legion, hiking with the Friends of the Parks Trail Walkers Club, traveling - especially to the beaches. He was also a volunteer on the set construction crew for Theatre Winter Haven. Bernie was an active member of Christ Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie (Shoemaker) Hilker, two daughters Michelle Miller and husband Scott of Hanover, PA and Tammy Congdon and husband Douglas of Fuquay Varina, NC, grandchildren Brandon, Rebecca, Brianna Miller & Riley and Bryce Congdon, and two sisters Phyllis Kline and Mildred Kline. He was pre-deceased by a brother Clayton, and sisters Ethel Wilson and Beatrice Sutphin. Burial will be private. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
